Robo Studio

Robot motion simulator

Robo

A small robot you can direct. Play with it live in Free move, or build a loop in Studio: line up moves, click the floor to choose where each walk goes, and drop one-shots on top. There are no keyframes. Every pose is solved live from constraints, 3D IK and springs, 240 times a second.

Build a sequence on the timeline and loop it.

One-shots

Drag clips to reorder and drag a clip's right edge to change its length. One-shots stick to the clip they sit on. Drag the ruler to scrub. Keys: Space plays, ← → step a frame (Shift: a second), Delete removes, D duplicates, [ ] shorten or lengthen, Alt+← → move a clip.

How the studio works

Clips, not keyframesTimeline

Each clip only says which behaviour runs and for how long. The rig blends between clips through its springs, so a run that cuts to a bow leans, slows and folds on its own.

Pre-rolled startSeamless loops

With Loop on, the studio plays the loop once in the background and starts from where it ended. Every pass then begins in the pose the last one finished in, so the loop and exported videos repeat without a jump.

Deterministic replayScrubbing and export

A seeded random generator makes the same timeline play the same way every time. Scrubbing restores the nearest one-second snapshot, and video export renders each frame at an exact time, so nothing drops.

CaptureFree move to clips

In Free move, Capture logs every move you pick, every walk and every one-shot. Each walk is saved with where Robo actually ended up, so the clips replay the route you performed.

FABRIK in 3DArms and legs

Two-bone chains solved by reaching backward from the target, then forward from the root. A pole point in front of the knee or behind the elbow decides the bend.

Procedural steppingFeet on the floor plane

A foot stays planted until it drifts too far from its home under the hip, then arcs to a spot ahead. Spins and turns move the homes too, so Robo shuffles round on the spot.

Distance constraintAntenna

A chain of 3D points, each pulled back to a fixed distance from the one before. Verlet integration gives it momentum, and a soft pull toward upright makes it spring back.

Damped springHead

The head chases a point above the neck through a 3D spring. Raising the wobble slider lowers the damping, so bows, stops and landings make it bounce.

2.5D projectionCamera and draw order

Every joint lives in x, y, z and is projected with a simple perspective divide. Parts are sorted by depth each frame, and the head and torso swap front and back panels as Robo turns.
